About the role
Working with the Drop AI and Platform Teams, you will help to develop new platform capabilities for understanding and organising Recipe content and helping our users discover recipes for their smart appliances. You will help shape this technical solution to become an industry leading capability for the Kitchen OS. You will get the opportunity to work alongside world class colleagues, and deliver value for international brands in the rapidly growing area of kitchen IoT.

We are looking for a hands on ML engineer, who has understands the importance of making end to end technical choices (from architecture through support and testing) in a start up or scaled up environment. The ideal candidate will be a very strong machine learning enthusiast, and familiar with distributed architectures and data processing as well as Machine Learning Operations. 

You’ll be based in our Dublin office (we are embracing hybrid working, so you can work from home for up to 3 days per week) and report to our Head of AI, also based in Dublin.

Your Responsibilities
As a Drop Machine Learning Engineer, you will:

  • Work with your team to decide on technologies, tools and best practices for aggregation of high quality data sets, processes and pipelines for machine learning
  • Develop Machine Learning pipelines and solutions which promote scale, automation, observability and fast experimentation.
  • Operate and maintain business critical systems, ensuring systems are monitored and troubleshooting issues.
  • Work cross-functionally with product managers, designers, software engineers and data scientists to deliver data products which solve business problems for Drop and our Partners


Your Skills

  • You are proactive, and motivated to deliver.
  • You are solutions focused, and can solve problems by thinking holistically and understanding how systems work end to end. 
  • You have the ability to communicate effectively to stakeholders and collaborate effectively with a cross-functional team.
  • You write well-structured, maintainable code. We work mainly with Python.
  • You are a strong ML Engineer with a clear understanding of the engineering challenges for ML product. You know how to effectively mature ML systems from initial experimentation to production grade systems.
  • Experience in Content Understanding and particularly Natural Language Processing a plus.


Your Qualifications

  • You have at least 3 years relevant experience in a start up or scale up environment.
  • You have expertise in libraries and platforms for ML lifecycle orchestration such as Kubeflow, MLFlow, TFX
  • You have hands-on experience with standard machine learning / deep learning libraries and frameworks such as Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch, scikit-learn
  • You have a strong working knowledge of engineering and operations for machine learning 
  • You have expertise with AWS tools such as S3, EC2, Lambda, Redshift, Athena, Airflow or AWS Step Functions.
  • You have Experience of DevOps, automation and CI/CD using tools such as CircleCI and Docker.
  • Love of food and interest in IoT an advantage.
